Description
This archetype concerns oppression and freedom, responsibility and choice. Anyone who has workaholic tendencies and works at a fast pace until they burn out has this archetype. Master/slaves oppress themselves and others, and can be a brutally hard taskmaster. They become slave drivers of themselves, and are unconsciously or consciously trying to earn recognition/love. They express massive resentment as a theme throughout their lives, frequently describing themselves as powerless and without real life choices. They perceive their reality as bound in chains, and complain about their lack of true freedom. Many find this a difficult archetype to own. Wherever it ends up in their “Who Am I?” Map, this is the area of their life that they tend to tie up in chains. Becoming masters of their own destiny in this area is the key to empowerment within.
This is a driven archetype and contains a highly addictive personality. Any who’ve had addictions of any kind should claim it. Whenever master/slaves find something they love, they tend to over do it. Moderation is not something they’re at ease with. Balance is a constant struggle, doing things to excess or not at all. They can work like a ‘slave’ and be ‘slave drivers’. Using their willpower effectively is also challenging. Their hard work seems unavoidable. They believe they have very limited choices and do not view their suffering as potentially virtuous as the martyr does. The martyr chooses to make sacrifices whereas the slave believes they have no choice, they have to do it, and are indispensable.
