Self Improvement
If you have ever wondered “Who am I” or “What am I here for?” then I may have some of the answers. For a lot of people self development is ongoing but for most we miss out on the opportunity to better understand ourselves, taking responsibility.
My book, “Who Am I? An Archetypal Quest” uses archetypes – models of people and their behaviors, similar to stereotypes, to explain why people are the way that they are. The premise of the book is that everyone is different. I wanted to give people much more concrete evidence about who they were. Everyone can identify themselves in at least 12 of the more than 100 archetypes in my book, from artist, healer and politician to chameleon and Peter Pan.
It’s pretty much your soul’s DNA and there’s nothing in you that can’t be explained. What food you like and the TV you watch to your career choices and relationships all tell what your archetypes are. When people identified their own archetypes, they came to a better understanding of their strengths and weaknesses. We tend to have a sense of relief as in the saying “That’s me and that makes sense”.
It gives people confidence and self belief to follow through the aspirations we have held inside. The archetypes are based on both positive and negative aspects of a personality, the “light and shadow”. Everyone battles with the shadow and we can be very critical of ourselves. If you can understand the shadow you stop judging and criticizing yourself. My workshops on self-esteem for children and teenagers, particularly those making choices about study subjects and further education career paths, have been particularly successful.
Self Development
People spend a lot of time being someone that they are not. It’s about being confident with your choices and (understanding yourself) makes making decisions much clearer so that people can do what they are good at. You see them walk away with confidence and clarity about making those big decisions. The culmination of years’ work, the Archetypal Quest is not only helpful in understanding ourselves, but family members, children, partners, friends and work colleagues.
And I practice what I preach. You’ve got to walk the talk. I have found archetypes have transformed my life incredibly and have given me clarity and focus. They answer the essential questions – “Who am I, and what am I here for?” It is all about unlocking people’s potential. Once you know who you are you can’t un-know it.
See you next time,
