Do You Have a Healthy View of Relationships?

A lot of people wonder why their failed relationships so often follow a pattern. If many relationships that have ended for you seem to follow a similar pattern, perhaps your view of relationships causes you to make the wrong choices from the start.

Negative patterns most often end up with the same negative outcome even if different individuals are involved.  Not every failed relationship is necessarily your fault. But that said, there are two people in every relationship and your view of a successful relationship will impact the type of relationships you have.

Are You Co-Dependant?

As discussed in Katie’s episode, An Unhealthy Obsession of Vampires, co-dependant relationships are dangerous because we begin to blame our partner for not being telepathic about our needs. We need to be responsible for our own emotions and while we can nurture our partner, they are ultimately responsible for their own feelings.  A lot of people believe that romance and true love is all-consuming and as a result are co-dependant.

Do you look at potential partners in an unhealthy way? Do you dream of the knight on the white horse or the soul mate who ‘completes’ you?  A relationship can and should be a source of happiness but if you believe that the perfect relationship will be all you need for emotional sustenance, you’re probably setting yourself up for disappointment.

Troubled relationships can often be saved but if we start as we mean to go on in a new relationship, the choices we make could result in something that’s long lasting. What can you do to be happier with yourself so that you can be happier in your relationships?
