Is Valentine’s Day Good for a Relationship?

Some people view Valentine’s Day as nothing more than a method of selling flowers, chocolates, and convincing people to spend more at restaurants for a special dinner. While it’s true that your relationship and how you treat your partner matters all 365 days a year, why not enjoy some fun and romance on February 14^th as well? Valentine’s Day can be a great time to reconnect.

Relationships are not always going to be red hot with romance. And they shouldn’t always be as comfortable as an old shoe, either. They will naturally have peaks and valleys. What’s wrong with a grand gesture on a day that is meant to celebrate love?

One of the biggest problems with Valentine’s Day is the “let down” factor. If you’re single at this time of the year it may leave you feeling lonely and depressed. If you are in a serious or budding relationship and you see it as an important day on the calendar but your significant other does not, this can leave you feeling jilted and uncared for.  Your expectations of a holiday could hurt your relationship. Why not talk to your partner about what you both expect for the day? By communicating your wants, you aren’t expecting your partner to read your mind.

Better yet, if you want a really romantic Valentine’s Day, why not do the planning yourself? If you’re female, you should know that there is a common feeling among women who feel disappointed about their partner’s lack of participation in this holiday but there is no rule stating that the woman can’t plan the romantic evening. If you are male and your spouse has done romance in the past, why not surprise her this year by reciprocating? If you leave romance up to your partner at all times, there is a good chance they will feel neglected as well. While men and women may have different ideas of what romance and nurturing means, just about everyone appreciates a special romantic evening that was planned just for them.
